Junior Team

JUNIORS!

2012 will mark the 6th successful season for Madison Multisport and the second year of the Madison Multisport Junior Team, the only junior triathlon training program in the greater Madison area.

Team membership is open to any child entering 6th through 12th grades in the coming school year.  No prior race experience or skill level is necessary.  We are excited to work with your child at their level of both experience and fitness.

Coach Cindi has dreamed of coaching a Junior Triathlon Team for several years and she is super excited to be offering this to the Madison community again in 2012.  Cindi has been involved in triathlons for over 13 years and is passionate about helping aspiring triathletes reach their goals through expert coaching and successful training plans.  She looks forward to the opportunity to work with your child to help them live a more active lifestyle and reach toward their triathlon and fitness goals.

SCHEDULE:

Practices will be held at least two times per week with a focus on bike handling skills, open water swim confidence, transitions, building endurance and generating speed for top performance.

Parent participation or presence at training sessions is not required.

SKILLS DEVELOPED:

General: Our number one priority is safety, and number two priority is FUN!

Through individual skill development our focus will consistently keep these top two priorities in mind.  Our goal through the MM Junior Team is to give your child the best possible chance for success through a well-rounded approach, teaching the importance of physical activity, rest, nutrition and balance in our daily lives.

Swim: Team practices will allow for open water swim sessions at least every-other week to help your child feel comfortable, confident and safe swimming in open water.

Very little time will be spent on swim technique development.  It is highly recommended (if we could make this a requirement, we would!) that all athletes in the program also participate in a summer swim program, whether through a local swim club or training with a personal swim coach at least 3 times a week.

Bike: We will focus on bike safety by developing individual safe operational skills.  We will develop an endurance base for cycling, work on efficient bike form and teach safety precautions for riding with others.  The majority of our riding will be done on bike paths and in protected parking lots, however, some riding will be on the roads.

Run: Efficient technique is fundamental to injury prevention and success so we will spend considerable time developing each athlete’s individual running style while building endurance and speed at the same time.

Transitions: Essential to triathlon success and a lot of fun to practice are the less obvious skills involved in our sport.  Your child will feel like a pro with the development of fast and smooth transition skills.
