In 2011, Cindi was awarded USAT’s National Coach of the Year for her work developing an Olympic qualifier, her commitment to her adult age groupers and the development of a successful junior program in Madison.  Cindi is an olympic-level coach with a heart for developing the age group athlete and an ideal choice for anyone wishing to take their training and racing to the next level.

As a USA Triathlon certified coach, beginners and elite level triathletes have benefited from her experience in creating training plans that capitalize on their strengths and minimize their weaknesses. Cindi encourages her athletes to develop goals that elevate them to the next level of performance while maintaining balance in their lives.  Her goal is to help athletes increase their efficiency, strength and speed in all three disciplines of triathlon… having fun in the process.

Cindi as Athlete

Cindi is also a successful athlete with over 25 years of experience in competitive endurance athletics.  Cindi began racing triathlons following successful high school and college running and swimming careers, raced competitively for 15 years, and is now retired from elite racing to focus more on her coaching career.  She is an eight-time USA Triathlon All American, a two-time Hawaii Ironman World Championship finisher and Sprint distance World Champion. Cindi has five times represented the state of Wisconsin at the Best of the US Amateur Triathlon National Championships. Cindi is also an avid cross country skier and participates in the Birkebeiner 50K ski race every year.

 

Coach Steven Brandes

Steve brings 10 years of Endurance coaching to Madison Multisport. Steve is one of the select coaches currently in the USAT High Performance Mentorship Program. Steve has a strong resume coaching ITU draft legal and age group athletes. His athletes have won ITU Age Group World Championships, 4 USAT National Championships and 4 USAT National Championship 2nd place finishes. Over the 70.3 distance Steve has helped qualify 10 athletes to 70.3 World Championships. Steve has been named USAT National Coach at 3 different international events including the 2015 ITU Pan American Championships, as well as being selected by USAT to host a Select Camp for the Trinidad and Tobago Federation for their developing athletes.

Steve has also worked for the two largest coaching companies in the US, Carmichael Training Systems and Life Time Fitness. In these positions; Steve presented weekly lectures to developing triathlon coaches and instructed at cycling/triathlon camps. Steve spent countless hours in the A2 Wind Tunnel working with athletes on optimizing their bike fit and equipment choices.

As an athlete, Steve is an 8x Ironman Finisher. 3x IMWI, 4x IMAZ, 1xIMKY. Steve has qualified for the Ironman World Championships in 2010,  70.3 World Championships on three different occasions, and the Boston Marathon. Steve holds an Ironman PR of 9:39.

 

Coach Justin Gustafson

Justin came to Madison Multisport as an athlete in 2010, and has excelled in his coaching role the past two seasons.  He has been instrumental in the growth and development of the individuals on the Madison Multisport team. In the past 5 years, Justin’s growth in triathlon has been exponential, and in 2012 he earned his USA Triathlon Level 1 coaching certification. Justin’s passion is nutrition; he loves to “talk shop” about diet and nutrition strategies with a focus on proper fueling and weight loss. He races frequently, achieved a great finish at his first Ironman, Ironman Wisconsin 2012, and continues to compete in all distances of the sport.
