Ironman Wisconsin – 8 MM Teammates, 8 Inspiring Stories

Ironman Wisconsin – September 13, 2009
2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 mile run

Anna - Anna’s performance far exceeded her expectations for her first IM distance event.  She paced her swim and bike as planned, then felt better than expected on the run and was able to keep up a great pace for the marathon.  Her enjoyment of the race was evident in her smiling face throughout the day.  Anna definitely receives the ‘performance of the year’ award for this stellar day.

Brodie - This was Brodie’s 4th Ironman Wisconsin over the 7 year history of the event and he improved on his previous best by 58 minutes.  That’s right, a new PR by nearly an hour!  Based on his focus and determination over the summer, it is no surprise, his hard work paid dividends on race day.  Congrats on an amazing performance.

Dave D – Prayers of health and safety were granted to Dave on race day.  For someone who didn’t now how to swim a lap 9 months ago, a 1:20 swim is (understated) fantastic!  And for someone requiring knee surgery in the next couple months because the pain is unbearable at times, running the entire marathon (relatively pain free) under 5:30 could be considered a miracle.  Congrats on your achievement and exceeding all our goals for your performance.

Dave O – This guy is tougher than iron, and in his honor, we are renaming this competition the “Titanium Man” to better reflect what this race means to Dave.  He pursued his goal of the IM finish line for 3 years, surviving 2 bike crashes, over a dozen broken bones, cancer surgery and treatment, and 4 rounds of chemotherapy.  These challenges fueled his desire to continue to pursue his goal, and this year, he finally did it!  Dave crossed the line in 15 hours, celebrating his journey and his amazing accomplishment with family and friends

Jon N - This rookie is no joke.  In his first attempt at the Ironman distance, Jon put together an ideal race, pacing and fueling the swim-bike-run entirely as planned.  Jon does not have a physical weakness, and certainly not in his mental edge as he welcomed each challenge of the day.  Jon crossed the line in 10:32, placing in the top 20 in his age group and top 5% of all participants.  Wow!

Jon S - He did his first Ironman in 2005, and since then has made significant improvements in all aspects of triathlon.  Most notably this year, huge improvements on the swim and bike launched him to a 35 minute PR.  Jon and teammate Dave D were within minutes of each other the entire day, completing the second 1/2 of the run side-by-side.  What an awesome experience to share and celebrate at the finish line together.

Lauren – Superhero powered Lauren put together a fantastic Ironman race, in addition to working crazy hours building her personal training business this year.  This girl is packed with talent and determination, using every bit of her energy to cross the line as soon as possible.  Lauren’s incredible 10:58 finish landed her in 4th place on the podium.  Way to go, superhero!

Tino – He kept his goal of the Ironman finish line in perspective.  As the day unfolded, Tino knew this was not going to be his best day, but he dug deep, deeper than he knew was possible for him.  Because even-though he would not make his time goal, he was not going to give up on his goal of being an Ironman this day.  Thanks for showing the rest of us what it means to ‘dig deep’ and still smile at the finish line.
